Built in 1849 as a woolen mill making uniforms for both
the Union and Confederate armies. The complex prospered during both
World Wars, making uniforms, blankets, men's and women's worsted wool
suits.
Three presidents wore an article of clothing at their inaguration made
by the Hockanum Manufacturing Company.
Our slates are newly quarries in the United States,
hand cut to size, deeply carved, and painted with durable enamels. Slate
is a natural metamorphic rock formed 500 million years ago during the
Mississippian and Pennsylvanian periods in the late Paleozoic Era.
Because slate is a natural product of the earth, there
are features and color variations inherent in the rock. These variations
enhance the natural beauty and unique character of all of our slate
signs.
